Welch wraps up Maghreb tour

US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Welch wrapped up his tour of the Maghreb with a stop in Tunisia on Thursday (February 28th). The meeting with President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali focused on bilateral relations and current regional issues, TAP reported. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the relations between the Maghreb countries, the Western Sahara were among the international topics on the agenda.
Earlier on Thursday, Welch met with Defence Minister Kamel Morjane and discussed bilateral military co-operation ahead of the next session of the Tunisian-US joint military committee set for May in Washington. Welch also discussed boosting economic co-operation between Tunisia and the US with Development and International Co-operation Minister Mohamed Nouri Jouini.

It is lamentable, an American wants to reconcile two Maghreb countries... We have seen it all, and still he wants to interfere in our country’s domestic policy. He does not want a real democracy, he has no [expletive] business with the constitution.
