2008-02-11
Seven NGOs urged the appeals court in Salé to strike the death sentence of Amin Mrini on Saturday (February 9th), AFP reported. Mrini, a Dutchman of Moroccan origin, has been sentenced to death for the 2005 murder of a Dutch citizen in Utrecht. After three postponements, the appeal hearing is scheduled for February 13th. Mrini was originally sentenced to death on June 14th, 2007. According to Mrini's lawyer, Dutch NGOs and media were surprised by Mrini's death sentence. Morocco has not carried out an execution since 1994.
